Description
  • Situated just south of Volnay and Pommard in the Côte de Beaune, Meursault is the most extensive southerly white wine commune of the Côte-d'Or. Meursault "Goutte d'Or" is the first Premier Cru found when leaving the village in the direction of Puligny-Montrachet. The parcel of vines was given this name ('drop of gold') because of the quantity of flint in the soil. These flints have both the shape and colour of 'drops of gold'. Entirely like the drops of wine which this land produces! The wine itself is as one would expect it to be with a powerful nose and rich palate. The wine prefered by Thomas Jefferson.

Press review
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2021 - Tim Atkin - February 2023 - 92/100
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2021 - James Suckling - July 2023 - 94/100

Lovely nose of lemon curd with just a touch of toasty oak. So ripe you might imagine that it doesn't have much acidity, but under all the richness there's a lively acidity that keeps this light on its feet. Excellent harmony at the finish. Drink or hold.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2021 - Sarah Marsh MW - January 2023 - 90/100

Ripe and rich, with greengage fruits and almost chunky concentration. It is rich and bling. Crowd-pleasing. 2024-28.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2021 - The Wine Advocate - January 2023 - 92/100

Aromas of pear, beeswax, citrus oil and pastry cream preface the 2021 Meursault 1er Cru Goutte d'Or. A medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine that's rich and vibrant, concluding with a saline finish.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2021 - Wine Spectator - 92/100

Velvety and interwoven with peach, ripe red apple and baking spice flavors, revealing flashes of honey and citronella as this plays out on the
lingering finish. Best from 2024 through 2029. (November 2023, USA)

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2021 - Bill Nanson Burgundy Report - January 2023

A more classic width of Meursault aroma - faintly spiced with an almost ginger component. Fuller, with excellent texture, a more layered wine - lots of concentration but still open in style. A bit more élevage needed in the middle where the wine lacks a bit of interest - but not in the finish - a great start and a great finish here - so a wine with lots of potential...
Smaller volume vintage, nearly 50% new oak. 13.1-13.2° natural here. A third of a normal vintage - 'almost good for 2021!'

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2020 - James Suckling - 95/100 pts

A very generous and mouth-filling wine with super-ripe mirabelle, the fine tannins and delicate minerality beautifully interwoven into that. Great concentration and not a jot too rich. Very long and graceful finish with a lot of complexity. Drink or hold.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2020 - Burghound.com - 90-92/100 pts

The nose is dominated by wood toast.
On the palate there is more volume and richness
though with less refinement and minerality on the
powerful, mouth coating, clean and moderately dry
finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This
should age reasonably well but be approachable
      young. 2027+

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2020 - Burghound - June 2023 - 91/100

A discreet though perceptible dollop of wood frames the aromas of acacia blossom, hazelnut, citrus confit and white peach. There is again very good mid-palate density to the caressing but powerful medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a moderately austerity, bone-dry and sneaky long finish. This is sufficiently tightly wound to repay up to a decade of keeping. 2029+

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2020 - Wine Review Online - March 2023 - 95/100

Goutte-d'Or, literally golden drop, is a smaller vineyard that sits at the northern end of the string of the main premier cru vineyards. Its cooler east-northeast orientation gives it an advantage in warm vintages. Latour hit a bull's eye with this finesse-filled wine, combining richness and depth with great energy and extraordinary length.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2020 - The Wine Advocate - January 2023 - 93/100

The 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Goutte d'Or exhibits aromas of pear, toasted nuts, beeswax and apple blossom, followed by a medium to
full-bodied, ample and enveloping palate with a satiny attack, lively acids and spice-inflected finish. It's one of the highlights of the range this
      year.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2018 - The Wine Advocate - 90 pts

"The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Goutte d'Or offers up notes of pear, white flowers, crisp green apple and almond paste. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and open-knit, it's giving and accessible, concluding with a chalky finish."

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2018 - Burghound.com - Allen Meadows - June 2020 - 89-92/100

Here too there is touch of reduction though in this case it is sufficiently light so as to allow the softly exotic aromas of white
peach and orange peel to be appreciated. The exceptionally rich, round and full-bodied flavors flash good muscle on the sappy and palate coating finish.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2017 - Wine Enthusiast - January 2020 - 93/100

Creamy richness on the nose of this wine has hints of lemon and ripe Mirabelle plum. The palate follows suit with a generous mouthfeel that holds smooth creaminess, hints of vanilla, chalkiness and vivid lemon-oil roundness. This strikes a rich but harmonious balance. The finish is mellow, full but also fresh. Drink by 2035.
      Anne Krebiehl MW

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2017 - Wine Spectator - USA - 94/100

The aromas exude smoky, spicy oak, with peach, honey and butterdrenched fruit flavors infiltrating the creamy palate. This is hedonistic in approach, leaving a long, palatestaining aftertaste that echoes
      the fruit and oak ...

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2017 - Burgundy Report, Bill Nanson - January 2019 - "Simply delicious!"

That's really nice in the mouth - oaked but no vanilla - open, concentrated but always beautifully balanced. This is an excellent Meursault - simply delicious!

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2016 - William Kelley, Wine Advocate (USA) - January 2019 - 92/100

The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Goutte d'Or bursts from the glass with aromas of green orchard fruit, nutmeg and honeycomb. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with chewy texture and extract, succulent acids and a long, lusty finish. It's one of the most dramatic, extroverted wines in the Latour collection this year. Drink 2018-2028

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2016 - Wine Spectator - November 2018 - 93/100

A rich, buttery style, this features peach, citrus blossom, citrus peel, vanilla and clove flavors. Firms up, with stone and seashore elements adding a mineral dimension. Complex and long.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2015 - Wine Enthusiast - November 2017 - 93/100

This is a cool wine, with acidity and citrus fruits well in evidence. It comes from one of the higher premier-cru vineyards, giving a crisp and textured wine even in this warm vintage. (USA)

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2015 - Burghound - June 2017 - 89-91/100

As is typically the case there is more size, weight and concentration to the big-bodied and exceptionally rich flavors that also possess a beguiling mouth feel though without the same sophistication on the punchy and sappy finale. (89-91)/2021+

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2015 - Tim Atkin - January 2017 - 92/100
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2014 - Wine Spectator - November 2016 - 93/100

Butterscotch, pastry, lemon cake and apple flavors penetrate the oily and minerally intensity of this white. Offers a lean, steely structure, with a lingering aftertaste of nut oil, mineral and spice. Best from 2019 through 2028. 60 cases made. - Bruce Sanderson (USA)

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2014 - Burghound - June 2016 - 92/100

Ripe but cool and appealingly fresh aromas are composed primarily by notes of pear, white peach, lavender and a hint of apricot. The super-rich and admirably concentrated medium weight plus flavors coat the mouth with dry extract that also serves to buffer the moderately firm acid backbone on the beautifully long finale. This is notably opulent and lush yet there is absolutely no heaviness though I would not suggest cellaring this for the long-term.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2014 - Tim Atkin (UK) - February 2016 - 92/100
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2014 - Burgundy Report - January 2016 - "This is a beauty"

Powerful but super interesting and textbook meursault nose - its very lovely. Here is joyous balance; of silky texture, and growing intensity of flavour complexity. There's a suggestion of oak, but quite simply this is a beauty. (cask sample) By Bill Nanson (UK).

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2013 - Wine Enthusiast - October 2015 - 91/100Rich and full in the mouth, this wine has a ripe, yellow fruit and honeyed character. This contrasts with the fragrant acidity and the steely edge that cuts the ripeness. It's a wine that demands aging, so drink from 2018. (USA)

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2013 - James Suckling - June 2015 - 93/100I always love Goutte d'Or. This wine shows so much dried fruit with lemon and apple character. Hints of mineral and salt too. Full body, intense minerality. Drink now.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2013 - Burghound.com - June 2015 - 91/100(...) Delicious, lush and seductively textured flavors that possess much better balance and length on the powerful finish. By Allen Meadows (USA)

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2012 - Wine Spectator - August 2015 - 92/100A rich version, with butter and roasted hazelnut notes accenting the pear and peach flavors. Balanced in an opulent style, presenting a long, spice-tinged finish. Drink now through 2020.
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2011 - Wine Spectator - June 2014 - 91/100Clean, with spice notes accenting the apple, pear and citrus flavors. This is balanced on the tangy side, lingering on the finish. Best from 2015 through 2024. By Bruce Sanderson (USA)
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2010 - Wine Spectator Online - February 2013 - 87/100A well-defined, sleek white, displaying baked apple, honey and lemon drop flavors. Balanced on the bitter side, with moderate length. Best from 2014 through 2020. By Bruce Sanderson, USA.
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2010 - Jancis Robinson - January 2012 - 17+/20Riper, more opulent style than the Blagny - has a touch of Viognier opulence to it. Round and soft, dry and lengthy. By Richard Hemming (UK).
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2009 - Wine Spectator -February 2012 - 90/100There are oyster shell and mineral notes on a creamy-textured profile. Shows the ripeness and weight of the vintage. Fine length. Drink now through 2016. (USA)
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or” 2009 - Burghound.com - June 2011 - 91/100A notably ripe nose of lemon, apple and peach aromas stops just short of being exotic as the extremely fresh and vibrant medium weight flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration that coats the mouth on the serious and admirably persistent if not especially refined finish. Still, this offers both more overall depth as well as finishing persistence and is the better effort. Worth a look. 2015+. By Allen Meadows (USA).
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2009 - Jancis Robinson - January 2011 - 15.5+/20Drink 2011-2014: Pretty, lightly herbal nose. (UK)
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2008 - Wine Spectator - January 2011 - 91/100A sleek, lemon verbena + and apple+scented white, sporting white peach and hazelnut flavors. Picks up some pastry a,d backing spice notes o, the lingering aftertaste. Drink now through 2020. By Bruce Sanderson, USA.

    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2008 - Allen Meadows' Burghound - July 2010 - 89/100This stylish effort offers a step up in elegance with white flower, pear and peach aromas merging seamlessly into rich, full and naturally sweet medium full flavors that culminate in a reasonably detailed finish that possesses an attractive texture and solid if not special persistence. 89/2014+
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2007 - Decanter magazine - December 2009 - 4 starsFine, hazelnut and straw nose with grape fruit elements. Full and complex fruit - fleshy with balancing acidity. Lots of flavour and lots of potential. From 2010. (SS) F&R, Mls (UK)
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2007 -Burghound.com- July 2009- 91/100This is notably riper with a touch of pain grillé on the yellow orchard fruit aromas that have a vaguely exotic character to them that can also be found on the very rich, round, sappy and delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess a seductive texture as well as good mid-palate fat, all wrapped in a citrusy, dry and intense finish. 2013+. By Allen Meadows (USA).
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2006 - Wine Spectator - July 2009 - 89/100Hints of butter and vanilla aromas lead into apricot and peach flavors in this lush white, which never gets heavy, as the flavors caress the palate. Moderate length. Drink now through 2014. 300 cases made.
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2006 - Wine Advocate - December 2008- 89-90/100Beyond the smoky, toasty, resinous top notes from its 50% new barrels, the Latour 2006 Meursault Gouttes d'Or offers lime and honey in a surprisingly generous, soft expression of this usually overtly mineral site. In the long, polished finish, savory, saline and stony notes emerge to give a sense of this place and the inherently complex potential of its wines. (USA)
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2006 - Wine Enthusiast - October 2008 - 91/100Fat and full-bodied as befits a Meursault , but tempered with green acidity, the rich fruit of this wine is laced with wood, the fullness a shield for the crisp white fruit and steeliness. (USA)
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2006 - Burghound.com - July 2008 - 91/100Here the nose is finer and clearly more elegant with a ripe orchard fruit nose plus discreet notes of mango and papaya that introduce equally opulent if less powerful and concentrated flavors that possess even greater depth and length. This is recommended. 2010+. By Allen Meadows (USA).
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2006 - Jancis Robinson - February 2008 - 17/20Ripe, buttery, honeyed citrus. Marked oak on the palate, creamy rich texture and just enough freshness. Drink 2009-13. (UK)
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Gouttes d'Or" 2005 - Burghound.com - July 2007 - 90/100Here the aromas are riper and less high-pitched as they run toward the exotic and are followed by bigger, richer and more generous flavors that possess plenty of mid-palate fat and a beguiling sweetness contrasted with a very dry and persistent finish. I like the intensity here and coupled with the punch make for a real feeling of vibrancy. By Allen Meadows (USA).
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2005 - Jancis Robinson - January 2007 - 16.5/20 Delicate, rather entrancing. Well-integrated nose. (UK)
    • 2004 Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" - Wine Spectator - February 2007 - 87 points :A tightly wound white, exhibiting hints of juniper, honey, lemon and mineral. Pinched and slightly astringent in the end. Best from 2008 through 2012.
    • 2004 Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" - Burghound.com - July 2006 - 90 points :Notes of pain grillé sharing center stage with pretty notes of peach and pear that introduce ripe, rich and nicely rounded medium weight plus flavors that possess good mid-palate fat and solid dry extract levels on the persistent finish. An impressive wine that needs 2 to 3 years in bottle to really come into its own.
    • 2003 Meursault “Goutte d’Or” - Burghound.com - October 2005 - 88 points :Vanilla and pain grille combine with ripe melon and slightly exotic fruit aromas as well as super concentrated, rich and pretty flavors that manage to avoid any sense of heaviness though I wouldn’t exactly call this light on its feet. Still, there is solid balance here and this should reward a year or two of cellaring though not more. 88/2006+
    • Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2003 - Wine Advocate Ratings - Issue 158 - 89 PointsThis wine sports a nose of grilled minerals. On the palate, this sappy effort offers a light to medium-bodied personality filled with satiny waves of minerals as well as pears. Its finish is long, filled with fruit, and silky. It should be consumed over the next 4 years.
    • 2002 Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" - Burghound.com - July 2004 - 89 points :A discreet touch of oak frames rich, bright and sweet peach and apricot aromas and continues on to the round, full-bodied, beautifully textured flavors that offer excellent finishing intensity. The oak is dialed up here relative to the prior wines but it will probably be successfully absorbed with a few years in the bottle because there is really good underlying material. 89/from 2006+
    • 2002 Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" - Wine Advocate - February 26th, 2004 - 89-91 points :White pepper-laced minerals canbe found in both the nose and flavour profile of the 2002 Meursault Goutte d'Or. A lively, light to medium-bodied, focused wine, it has outstanding depth and concentration. Projected maturity : now-2010.
    • 2002 Meursault 1er Cru Goutte d'Or - la Revue du Vin de France - February 2006 :More of a golden robe. Spicy bouquet, fruity ripeness; apricot hints, and notes of hazelnuts. A bit reserved. Dense palate, with depth, large yellow fleshed fruit and spices. Luscious finale but very firm. Lemony minerality, the finale livens up substance. Wait.
    • 2002 Meursault 1er Cru “Goutte d’Or” - Decanter Magazine - February 2005 :Fine, slightly vegetal front, but good honeyed ripeness. Ripe, well-defined, well-nurtured fruit. Shows minerality and length. Good solid structure. 2-7 years.
    • 2001 Meursault Goutte d'Or - TheFineWineTimes.com - February 11th, 2010:Full, rich and nicely aged this was pretty impressive. Buttery nose with lemon, earth, peach and mineral accents. Medium-bodied with a decent concentration of lemon, lime and peach fruits. Smooth and almost fat with quite low acidity. Medium vanilla scented finish.
    • 2000 Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'or" - Wine Enthusiast - August 2002 - 88 points :California comes to Burgundy in this wine, wich features aromas of toast, caramel and butterscotch and flavors of buttered backed apples. Lush and obvious; even shows a bit of california-esque heat on the finish.
    • 1997 Meursault 1er Cru «Goutte d'Or» - Wine Advocate - June 21st, 1999 - 88-90 points :The 1997 Meursault Goutte d'Or offers wonderfully ripe aromas of poached pears, hazalnuts, and hints of minerals. This medium-to-full-bodied and layered wine is densely packed with candled white fruits and boasts a long finish. It is rich, thick, and mouth coating, yet appears to have the requisite balance for up to five years of cellaring.
    • 1990 Meursault 1er Cru "Goutted'Or" - Wine - July 2000 :A glorious balance of fruit and mature flavours.
