Description
  • Situated just south of Volnay and Pommard in the Côte de Beaune, Meursault is the most extensive southerly white wine commune of the Côte-d'Or. Meursault « Goutte d'Or » is the first Premier Cru found when leaving the village in the direction of Puligny-Montrachet. The parcel of vines was given this name ('drop of gold') because of the quantity of flint in the soil. These flints have both the shape and colour of 'drops of gold'. Entirely like the drops of wine which this land produces! The wine itself is all one would expect it to be with a powerful nose and rich palate. The wine prefered by Thomas Jefferson.

    The Meursault 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" 2012 is a pretty pale yellow colour. Generous and powerful, it reveals aromas of vanilla and star anise on the nose. It has good length with a slightly oaky finish.

      Ripe but cool and appealingly fresh aromas are composed primarily by notes of pear, white peach, lavender and a hint of apricot. The super-rich and admirably concentrated medium weight plus flavors coat the mouth with dry extract that also serves to buffer the moderately firm acid backbone on the beautifully long finale. This is notably opulent and lush yet there is absolutely no heaviness though I would not suggest cellaring this for the long-term.

It should be consumed over the next 4 years.

The oak is dialed up here relative to the prior wines but it will probably be successfully absorbed with a few years in the bottle because there is really good underlying material. 89/from 2006+

Dense palate, with depth, large yellow fleshed fruit and spices. Luscious finale but very firm. Lemony minerality, the finale livens up substance. Wait.

Medium-bodied with a decent concentration of lemon, lime and peach fruits. Smooth and almost fat with quite low acidity. Medium vanilla scented finish.

Lush and obvious; even shows a bit of california-esque heat on the finish.
    • 1997 Meursault 1er Cru «Goutte d'Or» - Wine Advocate - June 21st, 1999 - 88-90 points :The 1997 Meursault Goutte d'Or offers wonderfully ripe aromas of poached pears, hazalnuts, and hints of minerals. This medium-to-full-bodied and layered wine is densely packed with candled white fruits and boasts a long finish. It is rich, thick, and mouth coating, yet appears to have the requisite balance for up to five years of cellaring.
