Our Domaines - Les Pierres Dorées
Our new Pinot Noir adventure
Maison Louis Latour once again exports its burgundian know-how outside of Côte d'Or. The "Pierres Dorées” is a magnificent region located about 40 kilometers North-West from Lyon. The very specific terroir of the "little Toscany”, as people call this region, offer a Pinot Noir of an incredible aromatic complexity when vinified with our burgundian signature.
Maison Louis Latour once
again exports its Burgundian know-how
outside of the Côte d'Or. After the great
successes of Ardèche and Var, we have decided to repeat the experience by
planting Pinot Noir in Southern Beaujolais.
The Pierres Dorées region is located about 40 kilometres North-West of Lyon. The "little Tuscany”, as people call this region, takes its name in the golden stones used to build most of the buildings. The hints of ochre and gold in the limestone here come from the iron oxide.
This region offers a great diversity of landscapes, where vineyards stand alongside fields, orchards and woods. Cultivated since 832AD, the vineyards are located on the best soils, sometimes at high altitude. Gamay is the traditional variety grown in the region along with Chardonnay, while Pinot Noir is still uncommon.
The Pierres Dorées' clay and limestone soils are very similar to those found in Burgundy and very different from the northern area of "Crus du Beaujolais” where the soils are dominated by granite. This is why, after careful analysis, Maison Louis Latour decided to plant Pinot Noir in this area.
This very specific terroir allows Pinot Noir to reveal all its elegance end
richness. The wines from the Pierres Dorées region offer an incredible aromatic
complexity when vinified with our Burgundian
