Description
- Our Grand Cru wine of Bonnes Mares is unusual in that like its southern neighbour, Le Montrachet, it straddles two appellations. The vast majority of the vines fall into the commune of Chambolle-Musigny whilst the remainder nudge over into Morey-St-Denis. However, the wines produced from this unique soil give greater body and longer ageing potential than the more silky wines of Chambolle-Musigny. Indeed the wines of Bonnes Mares show greater sturdiness, power and structure which require patience to be truly appreciated.

- Tasting NoteThe intense red color is accompanied by aromas of raspberry, preserved strawberries and undergrowth. The tannins are fine and silky. The palate is powerful and structured.

- Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2008 - Allen Meadows' Burghound - April 2010 - 93/100A somber but gorgeously complex nose of red berry fruit and subtle wood hints that is actually quite elegant with lovely aromatic purity that complements cool but ripe, earthy and serious medium full-bodied flavors blessed with ample amounts of dry extract and supported by firm structural elements on the impressively persistent and austere finish. I quite like this as it's powerful and intense but note that patience will be required. 93/2025+

- Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2007 - Burghound.com - April 2009 - 91/100This is also quite complex though, at this point at least, not quite as layered and interesting as the Charmes with a ripe, pure and elegant nose of freshly crushed raspberries and a background note of warm earth that introduces more complex, rich and notably ripe flavors that are relatively forward for a young Bonnes Mares and culminate in a linear, balanced and solidly persistent finish. Like most of the wines in the range, this is not especially concentrated but makes up for it with fine balance and more finesse than one typically finds with this appellation. 2014+
