This beautiful Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru has a subtle nose of bergamot and orange zest with notes of wild herbs. Excellent tension on the generous but focused palate, driving the very long, structured finish, which has a serious stony minerality. From a high-altitude site that may well become better known due to climate change. Drink or hold. (Stuart Pigott, June 2024)

A discreet application of wood frames the pretty aromas of the essence of pear and apple compote, carnation and crushed fennel. The sleek and intense middleweight flavors possess both good richness and a subtle minerality that adds a sense of lift to the markedly zest-inflected finale that exhibits solid length. This white is creamy, with ample baking spice, butterscotch, peach and lemon cake flavors. Shows latent power yet remains fresh and long on the complex finish, where the fruit and spice elements echo. Drink now through 2030. (USA,  April 2022)

Succulent and juicy up-font. Nicely racy energy. Very juicy, and it has freshness to boot. 2024-30.

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Sous le Puits is fleshy and open-knit, exhibiting aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, beeswax and
freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and charming palate.

Broad and also of depth - filling in the gap with appealing freshness - that's a really super nose. Supple but cool, fluid, silky textured - even a touch of salinity. Simply excellent.

A cool and restrained Puligny-Montrachet, with delicate white-fruit and floral aromas. Sleek, linear and elegantly dry, the finish long and delicate, with floral and mineral nuances. Drink or hold.

An attractively floral-suffused nose displays
notes of white peach, spice and a hint of Asian
style tea. The succulent and more refined middle
weight flavors don't possess the same density or
power on the moderately dry finale.

Aromas of white flowers, pear, iodine and pastry cream introduce the 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Sous le Puits, a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny wine with a bright spine and a broad, saline finish.

Pale yellow in color, this wine exudes ripe  yellow fruits balanced by having been aged in 50% new oak. Intense aromatics of ripe lemon verbena have an edge of tropical fruit and flint. The palate is linear with yellow citrus and orchard fruit plus limestone minerality. Cellar through 2028+. (USA, November 2023)

A dense, layered white with cooked-apple, honey and light pear aromas and flavors. It's full-bodied and tight with lovely fruit. White pepper and spice. Intense finish. Drink or hold.

An overtly floral nose offers up notes of acacia and lilac along with those of poached pear, apple and tangerine peel. The relatively finely detailed flavors exude a subtle minerality on the vibrant, clean and dry finale. This isn't particularly refined, but I like the frank and refreshing delivery.

A very convincing expression of this helpfully high site. Pale lemon-gold. A beguiling light citrus (lemon) and floral scent, at once mellow, pure, and vibrant, with good integration of the wood. Silky and supple, with considerable finesse but no weakness, as there is good definition and tension through the gently spiraling finish, enhanced and given even more interest by a lightly bitter twist. The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Sous le Puits offers up aromas of pear, clear honey and praline, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy palate that's open-knit and charming. This will drink well young. 

No toast, wide, sweeter, almost faintly spiced. More density but fine width, a more direct concentration but also more minerality versus the Charmes. Rather sweet but very long.

Cask sample. Ripe citrus and a note of oak spice. Creamy texture, rounded in the mouth, not quite enough acidity to balance though it is lifted by a slightly sour finish. (JH, UK)

A mineral streak runs through this sleek white, along with floral, peach, citrus and spice flavors. A touch lean, but comes together nicely on the persistent finish. Drink now through 2024.  — BS

Drink 2020-2025

The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Sous le Puits unfurls in the glass with a youthfully reserved but attractively pure bouquet of ripe lemons, citrus blossom and pastry cream. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny with a broad attack, a crisp but fleshy mid-palate and a pure finish. With a few years in bottle, I suspect this will evolve into something quite exotic and gourmand. Crink 2018-2028

Rich and expressive, offering an integrated combination of peach, apple, baking spice and pastry flavors, backed by a bright structure. The pastry and spice notes echo on the finish.

This is one of the higher elevation premier crus in Puligny. In this warm vintage it has managed to give a wine that is crisp and mineral. To contrast with this, the wine also has a creamy, toasty character from the wood aging. (USA)

The citrus elements can be found on the succulent, pliant and delicious middle weight flavors that culminate in a dry and clean finish that is enhanced by the presence of a touch of bitter lemon but not by the mild warmth. Note that this should drink well shortly after it's available on the market. 89/2019+

This is incredibly perfumed with lavender, pineapple and lemon character. Medium to full body, flint and stone flavors and plenty of dried pineapple and mangoes. Drink or hold.

This a big, and very nice fresh nose-full of aromas. Super texture, very silky, really with another level of flavour concentration in the mid-palate. It could be fresher, but it's fine in this respect. Really a super wine... Bill Nanson (UK)

Very fresh and clean with a mineral, dried-apple and pear character. Hints of lemon curd and hot stones. Medium to full body and delicious fruit. Drink now.

Linear and intense, this focused style lime, pastry, spice and stony, chaly flavors. Builds to a long finish , though this is tightly wound and locked up for now. Offers a terrific aftertaste of citrus and stone. Best from 2019 through 2030. 300 cases made. - Bruce Sanderson (USA)

The vineyard is high up the slope, giving this wine that has good acidity and crispness. The acidity is light and bright, while the texture is concentrated and mineral. It is going to develop as a fine, ripe wine. Drink from 2018.

A rich, lush style, sporting peach, vanilla and honey flavors, backed by lively acidity that keeps this balanced and long on the finish. Drink now through 2020.

Displaying a panorama of apricot and grapefruit aromas, and there's a nice understated freshness too. Big in the mouth - much more mineral in character than the nose - with a real impact of mid-palate flavor. Drink 2017-2035

A beautiful width of aroma - fresh apricot and agrume. Fills the mouth with mineral flavour, energy with a great punch of mid-palate flavour. Very impressive, a wine that got better and better, the longer it was open. (UK - December 2015)

Butter and butterscotch aromas lead off, with baked apple and spice notes adding interest. Opulent in profile, this echoes spice detils on the finish. Drink now through 2020.

Already bottled, the 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Sous le Puits is showing well, unfurling in the glass with aromas of sweet citrus fruit, beeswax and crisp green apples. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with nice depth and concentration and a clean, pure finish.
