- Situated about 10 Km from Dijon, Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the finest viticultural villages of the Côte de Nuits. In 1847 Gevrey-Chambertin was the first village of the Côte d'Or to join the village name with that of one of its Grand Crus - hence 'Gevrey-en-Montagne' became 'Gevrey-Chambertin. Planted only with Pinot Noir, here one finds the complete hierarchy of the Burgundian appellations: to the north, the premiers crus and to the south the grand crus. The village appellations are gathered on the bottom of the slope. The sparse and pebbly limestone-rich brown-red soils give Gevrey-Chambertin wines power and body. A great Côte de Nuits classic!

- Tasting NoteThe Gevrey-Chambertin 2011 has a deep ruby red colour. It has peppery aromas of cherry and liquorice. In the mouth, it is ample with notes of blackcurrant and sap. It has lovely persistent tannins.

There is once again very good freshness and verve to the equally delicious middle weight flavors that possess good precision on the moderately long finish where a subtle minerality is present. While not a wine of finesse per se this is more elegant than usual thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins. /2021+

Indeed, the superb 2009 vintage for red Burgundy gives consumers an opportunity to buy many village wines with the character of premiers crus. Supple tannins are in perfect harmony with the ripe fruit, a hallmark of the 2009 vintage. A subtle intriguing leathery component complements its fruitiness. It's a great village wine. - Gevrey-Chambertin 2007 - Tom Cannavan's wine-pages.com - August 2012 - 89/100A lovely pale colour again, though a little darker than the Marsannay, there's a lovely sappy, earthy lift to the nose here, with delicate floral touches over more blackcurranty fruit. On the palate there is more substance here; not only more weight and texture, but a more juicy and solid core of fruit that powers the mid palate. Tannins are fairly beefy in this, and the freshness of the cherry-skin acidity along with plenty of spicy character gives it a fairly lean and structured finish. This medium full-bodied, thick, chocolate, mocha and casis-crammed wine is backward when compared to most of the wines of this generous vintage, yet has the intensity of fruit and structure for moderate cellaring.
