Beaune Hospices: A very clear increase
No half measures here; the 147th Beaune Hospices Wine Auction wound up with a marked increase: +27.10%.
“This auction confirms and reflects the market trend, magnified by the distinctive character of this event”, concluded Louis-Fabrice Latour, chairman of the Burgundy traders’ union.
The auction is continuing to develop under the influence of Christie’s. For the first time, internet users were able to make online bids from anywhere in the world. Buyers could also choose the number of items in a series they wished to buy, once bidding was closed. These measures applied to all lots, contrary to the arrangements for last year. All these changes make the sale more accessible to private individuals.
The charity lot went to David Murray, chairman of Glasgow Rangers football Club. The 65,000 € raised by Nicolas Rolin’s Beaune Cuvée will go to help the ELA association (European leucodystrophy association) and the Federation of voluntary blood donors associated with the ADOT (Association for the donation of organs and human tissue). The event’s sponsors were the actor Richard Berry and a delegation of Miss France laureates.
